There has been rapid urbanization both in terms of the increase in population in cities and the spread of developments outside city boundaries. Excessive growth of cities has brought with it challenges that most developing countries in sub-Saharan Africa are not equipped to handle. Urban planning strives to create sustainable towns and cities. Particular emphasis was given to major cities in developing world. This chapter seeks to explore the significance of planning law in the growth and development of sustainable cities.
